Google Smartphones Leaking Login Data: German Researchers

Florian Schaub Bastian Könings and Jens Nickels, who are reputed German security researchers from the University of Ulm, have claimed to that almost all Google smartphones are leaking user data. The root of this problem faced by the smartphones, they say, lies in the way Google smartphones deal with authentication information. Google smartphones make it possible to login by using tokens, which eliminates the need for the users to login on a particular service, but through this method the smartphones end up sending information in plaintext over wireless.
This plaintext messages from the smartphones can be caught by any WiFi eavesdropper and he can easily decipher the token. Also the tokens from Google android smartphones are not handset-specific, and so the token for one handset can be easily used for another, which makes it doubly dangerous.

HTC profits have increased by more than 50% compared to last year, and HTC sales for the first 4 months of 2011 are double than that of 2010. HTC has made a $40 billion profit since May 2010, and the key contributor to the profit is its sale of Android-based devices. The profits of HTC are expected to get even better as Google's Android-based smartphones are set to take over more than half the market by the end of this year.
HTC profits have made it the third largest mobile device company and it has put Nokia behind in terms of sale. Android-based devices have outsold iPhones in most Verizon stores, and a large portion of HTC's profit is coming from the sale of a single device: Thunderbolt. Its tablet Flyer and its new Sensation smartphone have also jacked up its profits.
