Taiwanese mobile phone brand HTC has overtaken Apple in the UK smartphone market. At present HTC handsets make up the top 3 smartphones in the UK, according to telecom buyer's site uSwitch.com. The top 3 smartphone models include HTC desire, HTC wildfire and HTC Desire HD. The iPhone 4 is way behind in sales, ranking at No.6, the site reported.
The TechEye report reveals that the drop in Apple's popularity might be caused by the fact that iPhone 4 is no longer considered a status symbol and the customers are now looking for more features and value for money than the relatively expensive iPhone.
uSwitch's Ernest Doku said that HTC has won the smartphone market by offering customized handsets at a range of price points, thus making it desirable by all. Amongst the other smartphones that have beaten iPhone in the rankings are RIM BlackBerry Curve and Samsung Galaxy S.
