
Big leaps forward for HTC and Apple are occurring at the expense of Motorola and RIM. Based on its shares, the capitalization of Taiwan's HTC surpassed that of Nokia and RIM, making HTC the world's No. 2 cell phone maker, behind only Apple.
The phenomenal growth of HTC has caught investors' attention, with Goldman Sachs Securities predicting that HTC's total value could hit US $100 billion within three to five years. A Nielsen survey reveals that HTC Sense atop Android is driving Android forward in the U.S. market. HTC, Motorola and Samsung have driven Android forward to date.
Taiwan's HTC is reported to have told its component suppliers that it will be ramping up its smartphone production to around 60 million handsets during 2011, compared to sales of 20 million during 2010.
